Politicians lie, exaggerate, obfuscate, spin, and manipulate your base fears.  So, what? So, what happens for me is I lose my sense of humor.  I descend from skeptical, which I view as healthy, to cynical, which I find to be dark, oppressive, hopeless, and no fun.
