In these periodic posts, I will share ideas that currently move me in some way.  I’ll be drawing from the books I’m reading, films, blog posts, conversations, and personal ponderings.

I share these to further you on your journey to being happy, wild, and free.

The Oracle Quote

Quotations act as little doorways into new worlds and new perceptions. They consist of distilled genius.

My software angels choose this oracle quote for you today :

316)  Our true home is in the present moment.  To live in the present moment is a miracle.  The miracle is not to walk on water.  The miracle is to walk on the green Earth in the present moment, to appreciate the peace and beauty that are available now. – Thich Nhat Hanh

When I Am Scared…

When I’m scared or going into a situation that I fear will be dangerous, I enlist the power of spirit animals to be my allies.

Pronoun alert.  Which “I” feels scared?  Which inner child has the fear.  It’s not the Sage who is wise beyond his years.  For me it’s my three year old or my five year old who has the fear.

I was subpoenaed to give a deposition representing my client who was suing another therapist.  My five year old was frightened.  As the wise William, I asked him what critters, power animals he would like to have with him.

“Crows.”

“How many?”

“Five.”

Your little ones know exactly which they want and how many.  Exactly.  Crows.  Not bears or lions.  Your little one knows too.

The lawyer was nasty. The lawyer who was to support me was given the wrong time and place by the lawyer deposing me.  Nasty.

My crows just hopped around the conference room table, barking at him.  My five year old laughed.

When you head into a scary situation, who does your little one want.  She can have as many different kinds and as many of each as she wants.

Oh, isn’t this just my imagination?  Yes, maybe.  But the fear certainly arises from your imagination.

Feel the fear.  Surround yourself with the wise fearless part of yourself and your spirit animals.

Happy Summer

By my lights, summer starts on May 1st and ends August 1st.  So, happy summer.

We have two solstices, June 21 and December 21st, which mark the longest and the shortest days of the year.  Two equinoxes that mark the mid pint when the day and the night are of equal length September 21st and March 21st.  In the middle of between these dates lie what I think of as the beginnings and ends of the seasons.

  1. Groundhog Day – February 2nd. The days are noticeably longer.
  2. May Day – May 1st.
  3. August 1st
  4. Halloween – October 31st.

My ancestors, the Celts, figured seasons this way.  I like it.

Shakespeare and the folks of his time calculated this way too.  A Midsummer Night’s Dream happens on the eve of Summer solstice, the longest day of the year.  Christmas occurs in the darkest, mid-winter, Winter solstice.

I think of summer as the season of light.  The western version of starting Summer on the solstice June 21st , is more the season of heat.  This year solstice is 3:07 AM PDT.

Likewise, the dark season starts on Halloween and ends with the Groundhog.
