Playful Tool for Mindful Reflection

Posted On May 10 2017 by

What would Pirate Girl say? Listening to the wild person inside of you can be a great place to make sense of your life.  You can play with writing an exactly-50-word story as a way to bring the words to your experiences. When you engage your playful side, you find the deeper wisdom that hides from your serious mind – the one you learned for school. To help open yourself, you can choose a pen name, or a Nom de Mischief, to write under, so you can be free of the judgment of others, even if they only live in …

Mysterious Madam Ling

Posted On Jul 3 2016 by

After I named my studio, Suzanne felt she wanted to get in on a good thing.  (See post.)  Since I named by studio the Chuckling Ferret Studio, Suzanne played with words, swirled them around and Chuckling became a guy – Chuck Ling,  hence Chuck Ling Ferret Studio. And since she is married to my nom de studio self, she felt that necessarily she became Mrs. Ling.  Further word play led to Madam Ling, then to The Mysterious Madam Ling. Now, it needed a favorite critter, marmot won the prize. Finally, she has The Mysterious Madam Ling’s Marmot Studio. Play is …

The Pleasure of Making an Altar

Posted On Dec 12 2014 by

The Pleasure of Making an Altar Building an altar can be simple, easy, and playful.  And in this case, communal. And sometimes, rule breaking. “Dad, a jade plant is not a Christmas tree,” she said. “I beg to differ.  Jade’s sprit works for me.” The stuffed mouse was added by Suzanne.  The photo has been moved by several people.  What you can’t tell is that it is an image of an opened mouth, whistling marmot.  One of my totemic creatures.  He was at the birth of Christ.  It’s documented. This altar clearly has roots in my Christian heritage.  Make ones …

A Fun Way to Honor Your Art or Your Child’s Art

A Fun Way to Honor Your Art or Your Child’s Art Finally. I have decided I need a tablet computer, one with a keyboard.  Need.  Right.  It’s a toy that might have some delightful uses that I can use to justify my purchase.  By the way, I still don’t own a cell phone. The ASUS Transformer I settled on comes in Gray or gray.    But that can be fixed with a laptop skin, a protective material that adheres to its surface making it pretty. My daughter Sasha introduced me to skins at Nuvango.com.  They ask artists to create images for …

Sacred Oatmeal???

Posted On May 13 2011 by

In the first of our four Living with Magicality conversations Krysta Gibson talks about a surprisingly, cool transformational tool – eating oatmeal. (http://goo.gl/uLpMI) “How’s that?” you ask? It is cool, and I use it too. It reminds me of the silly joke – Buddha goes up to the hot dog vendor and says, “Make me one with everything.” Ho HoHo. As you are eating your oatmeal or your food of choice, consider … Where did it come from? How many people were involved to bring you your breakfast? Maybe a spouse. Certainly, farmers. And truckers. And the guys that built …
