Sabbatical Log

Sabbatical Log

People wonder what I do on my many sabbaticals.  Here’s what I did over the first two weeks in March.

First, what is a sabbatical?  Sabbatical relates to Sabbath which in turn means rest.  The Sabbath and Sabbaticals set time aside so people can enjoy themselves and explore their connection to God.  For me, it’s about a period of time to connect to the Sacred more deeply.

This doesn’t mean a time of solemn fasting and deprivation, but a time of joy and play.  Typically, I spend more time outdoors.

As you may know, my most recent book, Color the Sky Yellow: Creative Magic, Playful Art for Your Inner Child, delivers playful ways for you to do that.  I draw to connect to the Sacred and to quiet my chattering fearful mind.

These sketches become a log of my journeys.  Because of the depth of connection for me while I draw, these drawings and paintings bring back a wealth of memories.

Let me show you some drawings from this last Sabbatical.

You may not like some of these sketches.  Not required.  I don’t like all of them completely either.  I do like some and parts of others.

None of that matters.  I connected to the Sacred, I had fun, and I felt at peace, at home within myself in the process of creating each of these.

I don’t have to be good.  You don’t have to be good to transform your life.

Just pay attention and sketch.

While drawing at Lincoln Park, my butt getting wet sitting on a log, my inner chatter stilled.  I became wordless.

I was so quiet and so connected, two mallards came within inches of me

on their rounds.  I had become just a part of the beach.  I was part of Oneness.  This drawing will always remind me of the ducks, the rain, the eight year old girl walking past me on the water’s edge, my conversation with her dad later, my hike up the hill through the wet old growth forest…

All of those experiences are contained in this drawing.

Get the book and find some joy on your way to meet the Sacred.

May you walk in beauty,

William

P.S.  After you read the book, please review it on Amazon and pass the book on to friends.

P.P.S. I notice as my Sabbatical progresses, I become happier and happier, and I like my artwork better.
