Magical Experience — Feel It For Yourself

The first time I tried this, I bounced around and exclaimed, “It’s SO cool!”

When you perform this easy and revealing experiment, you can look directly into the eyes of your nervous system… it’s so cool.

And you will see and feel the subtle power of our interconnected system for yourself.  From this insight and direct experience, you will see why and how the subtle work with the CranialSacral system is so effective and so potent.

The Experiment

This all comes from Dr. Hugh Milne, one of my CranialSacral instructors.

Stand very peacefully. Take a few deep breaths and allow calmness to settle on you, entering alpha wave – the brain rhythm associated with wakeful relaxation. Focus your awareness on your feet.

Turn your head to look to your left, and notice whether your weight distribution changes on either of your feet. Follow with a rotation of your head to the right, then come back to center and take a couple more relaxing breaths.

Now rotate your jaw – only your jaw -to the left, being aware of the effect on your feet; repeat to the right side. Come back to center and pause.

Now move only your eyes to the left, noticing again how the weight distribution on your feet changes, then move your eyes to the right. Notice which direction causes the most weight transfer on to which part of which foot.

This exercise demonstrates an interconnectedness in movement that has its roots in our savanna-living hominid ancestors of five million years ago. For them, it was a matter of life or death that these movements were synchronous: head turning, eyes seeing, jaw prepared to bite – all with feet poised for fight or flight in the millisecond it would take to wheel their wiry bodies around if startled by a noise to the rear.

The eyes and neck are deeply connected: the main evolutionary reason for the existence of the neck is to give our eyes greater scope. All but one of the muscles that move the eyes attach to the sphenoid, the central bone of the cranium. As the eyes begin to move, the sphenoid and the whole body begin to respond.

As an example, we prognate (jut) our jaw when we are threatened or become aggressive, and the powerful muscle with which we do this originates from the sphenoid.

So, what did you feel?  Pretty cool, eh?  Leave your comments below.

So This Zen Guy Says

So, this Zen priest, no, better, the abbot of the Zen temple says to me, “William, why don’t you give your Beat the Flu program away?” (The Be Well Get Well Stay Well Program.)

 He smiled.

I grumbled.

Go See Avatar, in 3D

A love story grows under impossible odds, good guys, greedy exploiters, and genocidal bad guys, battle.  Filled with archetypes and beautiful to look at, I recommend you see the film — Avatar. And see it in the 3D or Imax 3D if it comes to your city. It’s a  technical wonder and deepens your immersion in this wondrous world.

James Cameron writer and director of Aliens, TerminatorTerminator 2, The Abyss, and Titanic gives us his best film ever.

First, here are the three definitions of avatar.

  1.  an incarnation of a Hindu deity in human or animal form, especially one of the incarnations of Vishnu such as Rama and Krishna
  2.  a character or persona of a player with a graphical representation
  3.  an electronic image that represents and is manipulated by a computer user (as in a computer game).

I grew up knowing the first one, but most of the movie going audience is only aware of the latter two… and I am only vaguely familiar with those.  You can bet Cameron is aware of all three and chose the title accordingly.

Keep the first definition in mind when you watch Avatar.

You can watch the trailer here –

     =>http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0499549/

 Note: Minor spoilers below.

 Archetypal Stories

When you watch the film, you will be deeply engaged in several archetypal stories, much like the StarWars films.

The romance is Romeo and Juliet.  This ends better.

My favorite archetypal story is the young marine who goes native.  He falls in love with the planet and it’s people he is tasked to exploit.  And specifically, he falls in love with the princess.

Like all fairy tales and archetypes, this sound trivial in the mere naming, but I assure you in the story, it touches your soul.

It also puts me in mind of the 1990 film Dances with Wolves, which has a warrior, the Civil War hero, played by Costner, going native.  Avatar ends on a more hopeful note than Dances with Wolves.  I recommend you see it again.

The Gaia theory, the notion of viewing the Earth as a single conscious organism, is never stated by Cameron, but lovingly illustrated, is at the core of the film.  (Gaia theory is named after the Greek goddess of Earth.)

Avatar comes at a crucial time for us humans as we race towards an uncertain future with global climate change.  The film may help us to wake up and act with love for our relationship to Earth.

If the gung-ho marine can turn native, then surely we can to.

As a side light, it will make you want to be fit.  And did I tell you about the dragons that they ride?  The movie is fun.  And inspiring.  And at 178 minutes way too short.

Blessings,

William

Magically Improved Water

Here’s a seasonal tip for you – a way to improve your water so you can drink more and remove any stagnation so you can stay healthy.  Cool!

Naturally, it’s part of the Get Well Be Well, Stay Well Program.  You can find out more here

=> http://BodyAndSoulMentor.net/BeWell

This comes from Kathy Rossol who contributes to the Open Doorway Reading Room section of the site.

My naturopathic doctor recommended an alternative drink to plain water, especially good when you’re fighting a cold or other respiratory bug. Cut a couple of lemon slices and throw into a mug. Roughly chop or slice fresh peeled ginger root, about 1 tsp. worth (more or less depending upon your spice preference) and add to mug. Pour boiling water over all to fill mug. You can add some honey if you have a sore throat or just need the energy. You can also squeeze in more lemon juice if you like the tart. Adjust quantities to match your taste. Try using lime slices for a milder citrus flavor.

My sister, a biodynamic ginger farmer in Hawaii, swears by ginger as a great cure-all, and it warms you right up when you’re feeling chilly.

Laugh Out Loud Books Touch Your Soul

While on our road trip to the Monterey Peninsula gathering deep wealth, we listened to two books on tape — Blessed are the Cheesemakers (our second time through this one) and Drums, Girls and Dangerous Pie.  Each has the remarkable quality of being laugh out loud humorous and has the ability to touch your soul deeply.

Kathy Rossol of Open Doorways Reading Room introduced me to each so I asked her to write a review.  Open Doorways Reading Room is an afterschool, community-based program in SE King County, WA,  where young people can listen to good reads and explore books not only as good entertainment, but as catalysts for new ideas and perspectives that may enrich their lives and open doors to the world beyond their own neighborhoods.

As usual, when you buy these books from these Amazon links, the commissions go to help kids.

Here Are Kathy’s Reviews –

Blessed Are the Cheesemakers by Sarah-Kate Lynch

Take one burned-out, alcoholic New York stockbroker, two quirky Irish cheesemakers, five vegetarian, singing dairymaids (who all happen to be pregnant) and add a heart-broken, lost soul named Abby. Mix well on a dairy farm in Kilarney, Ireland. Result – a deeply satisfying, unexpected tale of coincidences, second chances, human kindness and love. For a special treat, listen to the audiobook version – it is a riot!

Drums, Girls, And Dangerous Pie by Jordan Sonnenblick

Steven Alper is your typical 13-year old middle school kid – slightly geeky, passionate about drums, out of his depth with girls, and tolerant (on a good day) of his 5-year old brother, Jeffrey.  His life is turned upside down when Jeffrey is whisked off to the emergency room one morning with a horrendous nosebleed only to return home with an even more horrendous diagnosis of acute leukemia. Sonnenblick does an excellent job of balancing drama with humor and extraordinary events with the everyday trials and tribulations of an 8th grade boy.

Why You Should Care about Harbingers

What harbingers do you have that announce the season that is arriving?

What lets you know the last season is ending?

Why should you care?

Because when you pay attention to the seasons, you can live a richer and happier life. It’s that simple.

And when you do that, you have Deep Wealth. And when you have Deep Wealth, you Smile, it’s good.

This Season

“You can gain Deep Wealth by attending to the seasonal changes,” – William

Each season has it’s markers. Events mark the end of the last season and the beginning of the new. Attend to them both.

In the late fall, the Osprey’s migrate south – any week now. And as of this writing, the swallows have already flown.

During the peak of summer, Suzanne and I watch nine Alaska cruise ships enter the bay each weekend. There starting to trickle in as the season passes, mid October they’ll be gone until next spring.

surfbird_am
The arrival of the surfbirds and the black turnstones, my favorites, signal the beginning of the dark half of the year. They have an indomitable, sweet chatter even standing around on fridge rocks. They always make me smile. And when they fly like rockets half a meter over the water, I catch my breath every time.

The Rest of the Seasons

Feel into the ever evolving seasons. This will give you the deepest riches. Stay attuned every day. The Get Wealthy First Program will give you many ways to gather Deep Wealth. (http://getwealthyfirst.com/ )

Listen to Dr. Mark and I reveal the secrets behind the seasons as they unfold. Our next TeleClass will be around December 21st.

You can also look at a calendar to see what’s coming.

Mostly, recall your childhood when you were intimately plugged into the changes and a single season lasted a lifetime. What does that wise inner child have to say to you.

Listen to her/him.

Blessings,

William

P.S. If you missed the live conversations with Mark and I, not to worry. Just sign up, and you will get the download information for the recording and you can listen to it all season long at your convenience. It will be great.

Plus you get tons of reports to support you, too.

Easy Relaxation Tip

In order to gain mutant flexibility in my hips, I have been studying my guru, Pavel Tsatsouline’s masterpiece – Relax into Stretch – Instant Flexibility through Mastering Muscle Tension.

If you want to FEEL great, I recommend it highly. Being flexible and resilient is one of the shortest paths to feeling great. Anyone can achieve this with Pavel’s simple methods.

I showed one patient the souped-up toe touch from the book. She was a good foot away from her toes to start (30 cm). Within minutes, she touched the floor. Cool, eh.

Not so incidentally, employing his methods brings you into the present moment and into your body. And you know by now that coming into your body will bring you Deep Wealth. Right?

Go for it => Relax into Stretch – Instant Flexibility through Mastering Muscle Tension

Here’s the Tip

Your face and your hands reflect the overall tension levels in your body.

When you relax the tension in your face and your hands, all your other muscles will take the prompt and relax. Easy. Very Cool.

You can wipe the tension off of your face with your palms, slowly and firmly, from top to bottom.

You can TRY IT NOW. Notice your overall relaxation?

The next time you stretch, along with breathing into the stretched muscle, relax your face and hands while you do it.

Since reading this, I realize how much tension is in my face much of thel time. I squint to see better, I grimace while stretching, and my day-to-day stress shows as tension in my face.

Wag the dog – relax your face.

In many forms of meditation you will be taught some specific way to place your hands. The ancients knew your hands play a role in overall relaxation. You will note that none of them have you making white-knuckle fists in order to relax.

Use this simple method and watch your stress melt away.

Blessings,

William

P.S. Here’s a page of fitness goodies on the site. Winter’s coming, it’s a good time to start a fitness program. It will keep you warm. Apologies again if you live in the southern hemisphere. Fitness is still a good idea.
