Here Is What Happened To Matisse…

Here is what happened to Matisse the first time he took up
brush to paint –

“When I started to paint, I felt transported into a kind of
paradise.”

He’s talking about flow.  He’s talking about the right
brain.  He’s talking about the Buddha brain.  He’s talking
about conscious action.  He’s talking about presence.

Art of any sort has the ability to put you into the
graceful state of flow.  When you are in flow, you enjoy
what you’re doing.  You lose self-consciousness.  Your
sense of time changes.  It disappears completely.  It stops
dead in frozen, perfect moments.  Or it flies.

If you’re in the Seattle area on Nov. 8th 2008, you can
join us for FLOW AND THE MAGIC OF MAKING ART.  Go here for
details.

And do sign up to be informed of future classes.

IF YOU’RE NOT going to be in Seattle, paint.  Get books on
making art.  Visit the libraries of the universe.  Go to
art museums.  Paint.  Draw.  Sketch.  Doodle.  Use your
right brain.  You could start with the amazing book –
DRAWING FROM THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE BRAIN.

Do watch this video about the right brain done by Jill
Bolte Taylor, a woman who had a brain breakdown and lost
her left brain, thereby making her completely right
brained.  Fascinating.  (Note: Oprah has some interviews
with her on-line as well.)

How Do You Mix Ho’oponopono with Tolle?

Emily, a reader of Amazingly Content
(http://tinyurl.com/6ybefp), asks this great question.  I
thought I’d share it with you.

***
Dear William,

I am reading your ebook Amazingly Content. I already knew
about ho’oponopono from Joe Vitale and Dr Len but it’s
great to hear the inspiring stories in your ebook and more
information about how to apply it.

I have some questions on using ho’oponopono.

Recently I have been looking into the material of Eckhart
Tolle and others who teach being in the present, in the
now. I would like to continue to do ho’oponopono but am
unsure how to do that whilst tuning into space and silence.
Perhaps it’s not necessary to be saying the phrases all the
time?

I also find it difficult to clean at the same time as
talking to someone or doing something that requires
concentration. I would be very grateful if you could answer
these questions for me.

Thank you.

Best wishes,

Emily from the UK

***

Good question, yes?

The truth is that all of these methods are art forms, like
jazz.  You have a theme, and then you improvise.

It is not necessary to use the four phrases of ho’oponopono
all the time.  It just helps.  Presence is your big goal.
Here’s why.

When you are present, you love.  When you are present, you
are reconciled with all that is.  That’s the way presence
works.  You get Presence and you get love, gratitude,
reconciliation.  And aren’t these the goals of Ho’oponopono
– to love God and be reconciled with everyone and
everything?

So being present, in any way you can manage it, is one’s
primary task.  Tolle says that explicitly in A New Earth.
Be conscious, be present then do any work in the world you
want from that place.  The Tao Te Ching said the same thing
2500 years ago, right?

Having said that, when I am angry, resentful, jealous,
spiteful, complaining or obsessively needing to be right,
ho’oponopono is the best I can manage.  It brings me back
to sanity.  Remember one of the primary virtues of
ho’oponopono is you don’t need to know what to do, you
don’t have to believe anything, you just humbly invoke the
process, say the phrases, and it does the work.

You may notice that sooner or later ho’oponopono returns
you to the present.

Having said that, being present before you use
ho’oponopono, makes ho’oponopono work better.  One could
use the methods in Foolproof Relaxation
(http://tinyurl.com/6zotq9) or any other presencing
technique to cool down and get present, then slide into
some ho’oponopono.
RULES OF THUMB:

If you can be present, then that’s what you do first.  If
when you are present, your entire disharmony fades, then
you’re done.

If you can’t be present easily, use ho’oponopono.

If you have fear, use presencing techniques.

When you want to pray for someone, use ho’oponopono

I can repeat — I love you – all the time.
CLEANING WHILE DOING

Saying the phrases of ho’oponopono while being with someone
can be difficult.  Practice.

Saying the phrases of ho’oponopono while performing a task
can be difficult.  Practice.  I use it while doing
complicated cranialsacral therapy all the time.  You can
learn to use the phrases while working, too.
When it gets in the way of you’re being present to someone
or something, just be present and listen to them, see them.
 Presence trumps everything.

Ho’oponopono is an attitude as well as a process.  Just
listen with love and respect and you will be doing
ho’oponopono even if you’re not uttering the phrases.

You can mix your tools to get the job done.  Experiment and
you will gradually learn what works best for you and in
which situations.

Thanks Emily.

Blessings,

William

Which Is Sacred? (A 50-Word Mini Saga)

Which is sacred – The fast-food box floating at the lake
edge or the swallows zooming over the surface hunting?
Practicing Taiji, my bliss in the present moment deepens
while I dance with the darting swallows.  The Styrofoam
interrupts.  How to find the sacred even there?  Bobbing
beautifully, dazzling light – Ah. (50 words.)

Can you hear the heavenly choir in the lawnmower?  Can you
hear it sing in the leaf blower?  (The big park lawn mower
was swooping around me as I practiced my morning Taiji as
it does each Monday morning.

Can you find the Sacred Present in litter floating in the
pristine lake?

After all, you spend more time with these things than in
the so-called Sacred places.  Wouldn’t it be useful to
learn to find the Sacred anywhere any time?

You can.  Just listen to the sounds of the lawnmower.  Just
be with them.  Without judging.  Without resisting.

I often tighten up when I hear unpleasant sounds and
research shows noise pollution amongst the worst forms of
pollution regarding the effects on human and animal health.

When I just listen, relax the cringing, the Holy Angels
sing inside the lawn mower and even the leaf blower.

The Styrofoam?  As I removed it from my lake, I was
mesmerized by the beauty of the light on it and the way the
wavelets caressed it and the way the Styrofoam played at
the very top surface of the water.  My mind was quiet.  I
was as peaceful and full of light as the most serene
meditation.

So, where is the sacred?  Find some trash and be with it.

Blessings,

William

Announcing Foolproof Relaxation

Today, I happily announce a Laser Focused Report – Foolproof Relaxation.  Taa-ta!

It can show you How to Relax, Become Present, And Be At Ease Anytime and Anywhere You Want.  No kidding!

How?  Read these stories…

 Yikes!  Demons and Worries

Three AM and the demons of worry are here.  Yikes!  Toss and turn.  Get up and pee.  Get a drink of water.  Back in bed, the fears wait for you.  Still no sleep.  Thoughts racing and repeating… What to do?

Obviously, you use the methods you learn from Foolproof Relaxation.

With Foolproof Relaxation, you will know what to do when you can’t get back to sleep after the 3:00 AM night demons wake you with their obsessive, compulsive mind looping worries.

  • In short order, you will be able to go back to peaceful sleep in most instances.  Just picture how cool that is.

  • For the other instances, you’ll enjoy a pleasurable deep rest, then sleep.  Simply, amazing.

  • Repeated research proves you will gain more rest from this method than sleep itself would produce.  Cool.

How You Can Smooth Your Next Dental Visit

Using Foolproof Relaxation you will learn to be at ease in the dentist’s chair.  I even have fun with it.  Maybe you can, too.

Other Times you can benefit by using Foolproof Relaxation You can learn to be alert and at ease in dreadful meetings.  Can you imagine the benefit of this?

At some point, you are likely to be in a hospital waiting room, attending a loved one.  Using this method, you can remain present and calm your anxieties.  When you do that, you will be of immense value to your loved ones – both the person hospitalized and the others who are waiting in fear.

Clearly, this is a grim reality, but take it from me, you’ll want this tool then.

For Adults Only – another powerful time for Foolproof Relaxation

My friend, Joseph, is dying of colon cancer.  When he awakens with sensations in his gut, the demons mercilessly jump on him and fan his fears into infernos.  The sensations may be nothing at all, or they may be the cancer working its ways.  Joseph uses Foolproof Relaxation effectively to calm himself.

If it can work with some truly scary stuff, it will work wonders for you, too.

Oh, yes, it works with your garden-variety, everyday stress very well.  Use it daily for ten minutes or more and watch what happens to the quality of your life.

You’ll be more peaceful, calm, playful, and smiling.  Pretty cool, right?

Let’s move on…

How Do You Know If This Laser Focused Report Will Benefit You When You Get It?

  • Do you experience fear in the hospital?  The dentist’s?  The doctor’s?  Being with your boss or manager?

Your Buddha Brain

If you’ve been paying attention, you know one of
the Four Alluring Paradigms that I have is:
Upgrading Your Right Brain
(http://tinyurl.com/34del4)

Neuroanatomist, Jill Bolte Taylor, had an
opportunity few brain scientists would wish for:
One morning, she realized she was having a
massive stroke. As it happened — as she felt her
brain functions slip away one by one, speech,
movement, understanding — she studied and
remembered every moment. This is a powerful story
about how our brains define us and connect us to
the world and to one another.

Watch this wondrous, passionate video =>
http://www.ted.com/talks/view/id/229

Briefly, the right brain is concerned only with
right here right now. It thinks in pictures.  It
learns kinesthetically through the movement of
your body.  The right brain is at one with all
that is.

In this moment, we are perfect. We are beautiful.
 We are whole.

Left brain is concerned with past and future.
And it thinks it is separate from everything else
in the universe — William Wittmann, therapist,
teacher, writer.

Imagine not experiencing any brain chatter, no AM
talk-radio harangue.  That’s what happened when
her stroke shut down her left hemisphere.  She
found Nirvana and was living there.

Imagine now, choosing to be in that right
hemisphere any time you want.

You can.  Owl Eyes, that I explain in both the
following books, will do that for you.  You can
do it easily.  It’s part of how the brain works.

Be enlightened.

Regain Your Sanity Instantly

Obviously, you’d like a technique that can restore you to
sanity and help you to regain your perspective instantly,
right?

I have a technique wherein you can instantly shift your
perception and become sane and grounded and whole.  Well,
not quite true.  There’s a catch.  The shift happens
instantly, but you have to be in the right frame of mind to
flip the switch.

The good news is that if you practice this before you need
it, it becomes so fast for you that even when you’re nuts
you can go to your special spot and flip the switch to sane
grounded and whole.
Here’s How What Need

First, did you know that you can directly perceive the
curvature of the earth?  You can.  You need two things to
be able to do it, maybe three.  First, you have to know
it’s possible.

Second, you need a big enough space that also quite flat.
Tian An Men square in Beijing at 440.000 square meters is
the largest square in the world.  Tian An Men has the
reputation of being so big you can perceive the curvature
of the earth here.  I haven’t been.

The best is the open sea, of course.  Nothing blocks the
view.  According to naval author, Patrick O’Brian, the
horizon is 3-5 miles away depending on how far off the
surface you are viewing from.  Conveniently, that means my
Salish Sea, AKA Puget Sound, allows me to easily see the
curvature.  But even Lake Washington is wide enough for me
to gain the perspective.

Third, you have to quiet your mind enough so that it can
perceive the curve.  Most of us still live on the flat
earth.
Here’s What You Do

Find a big flat place.  Do you live near the ocean?  By a
lake?  Can you find a huge space where you can see the
horizon?  Go there.  If you don’t have this, see what you
can do with your imagination.
Stand or sit looking out at your space.  Gaze at the
horizon.  Let your eyes go soft.  Take in the space with
your peripheral vision.  Stretch it to the edges.  Now, let
yourself see the curve.

In order to perceive the curvature, you need to access a
different area of your brain than the chattering monkey
part of your mind.  The shift happens accessing your
peripheral vision and by hanging in until you perceive the
curve.

Notice how you feel when you perceive the curve.  What
things shift for you?  Let me know; I’d love to hear.

Because the world is round it turns me on
Because the world is round…aaaaaahhhhhh

How to Make Difficult Decisions

Here’s how you can use your body to make decisions.  Hold the question in your mind.  Recently, I was wrestling with what price to set for my private membership monthly subscription rate.  In this example I ask, “Is $9.97 a good price?”

I then feel my body’s responses.  I mostly feel my belly.  You can experiment to find the place in your body that responds best.  Just scan your whole body top to bottom.  Close your eyes.  It helps.

My body “smiles” with the price of $9.97.

Now I try the other side of the decision, the other choice.  I ask, “What happens if I drop my price from $15?  Should I keep it at $15?  After all, it’s 50% more money.”  My belly gets tight.  I want to hold onto the $15.  In other words, my fear comes up.  I fear I won’t make enough money to keep the sight running.

Clearly, you and I don’t want to operate from fear.  And a smiling body is a good thing.  Obviously, I chose to lower the fee from $15 to $9.97 making it easier from my private members to continually enjoy benefits.

This is an excellent example of your body and soul working together, wouldn’t you agree?

For a more thorough approach, the mysterious Madam Ling lives for a day with one of the two choices she is weighing and notices her body.  Then the next day she does the same with the other choice.

When the answer from your body is unclear, use this simple approach.  Use the same method and sleep on it.  In the morning ask the question and it will be clear.  Your subconscious will have figured it out while you put your attention elsewhere.

Blessings,

William

How the Traveling Wilburys Can Show You the Way

This oddity of contemporary rock and roll demonstrates
playful creativity and gives you permission to hop onboard
and play.

I’m talking about the Traveling Wilburys.  You may have
bumped into stories about them or heard their music.  I
recommend, in addition to listening to the music, that you
watch the DVD that comes with the 3 disk set.  The behind
the scenes section is a master class on playful creativity.

I’ve watched it three times.  What they do is so beautiful,
their relationships so loving, I am moved to tears each
time I see it.

The story starts with George Harrison, yes of the Beatles,
thinking it would be fun to get together with some friends
and jam a bit.  But one of his guitars is over at Tom’s
house.  That would be Tom Petty.  So Petty is now in on the
fun.

The night before, he had dinner with Roy Orbison.  So, Roy
was there.

Because he has a small recording studio in his house, they
give Bob a call.

George says, “You can call Bob for years and not get
answer.  This time he picked up the phone on the first
ring.”

So, Dylan is in on it.  And so it goes as they gather for a
couple of weeks in May 1988 of writing, playing, singing,
recording, and producing before Bob has to go on tour.
Everyone did each of those tasks.  They all played
together.

Harrison spent much of his energy making sure everyone
stayed friends.  He created a place of safety and playful
harmony for everyone.  Egos disappeared and joy emerged.

Get this.  None of them needed to make money with this
project.  Harrison says, “If we had tried to get these
people together to make an album it would never have
worked.”  Why do you think this is so?

They just got together to play.  Note the multiple meanings
of that word play.

They had so much fun and the results were so good they
wanted to share it.  You and I benefit.

Several of these men are experienced songwriters, Dylan
being the fastest and the most prolific, but even they used
tools to jump-start their writing.  Take note.

Here’s what they did.  They passed out magazines to
everyone and they flipped through pages and shouted out
words from ads.  This produced– Dirty World, a good-natured
song that makes me laugh with good humor.  It reminds me of
early Frank Zappa lyrics.

The behind the scenes DVD shares their fears, too.  Get
this: Fear of singing?  Fear of singing!?  Woof!

Remember these musicians have all been singing publicly to
huge audiences and in recording studios for decades.

They were afraid to follow Roy Orbison to the mike.  Who
wouldn’t be humbled by that?

Further note:  Their fear DID NOT STOP THEM.

I relearned –

1. Fear doesn’t go away.

2. Fear doesn’t stop you.
What can you learn from that?

Jeff Lynne, of Electric Light Orchestra, demonstrates
wrestling with the muse.  She dragged him out of bed and
sent him to the studio.  He broke into the studio one night
and changed the chord structure of a song leaving the
vocals untouched.  The guys liked it when they arrived in
the morning.

If you act on my suggestions, you will meet the muse too.
It’s a good thing.  She, who must be obeyed.

Upgrade your right brain.  Listen to music.  Play music,
even poorly.  Write silly songs.  Write powerful songs from
your heart.  All of these will expand your right brain and
improve your life.  I promise.

Take their master class –

Chuck Ling Ferret Studio

“What’s the name of your studio?”  I gently inquire.

“Huh?” you wonder.

“What’s the name of your studio?  What do you call the
place where you do your creative work?

“You do have a place to do art and to work on creative
projects don’t you?”

If you want to build your right brain, and I assure you
that you do, then you need to have a studio.

It needn’t be more than a flat surface in the corner of a
room stocked with cool pens where you can doodle.  But
setting aside space gives this aspect of your life
importance.

I wanted to explore creating comics more as a way to play,
expand my story telling abilities, and to enhance my design
sense – all right brain skills, so I went to the library.

Tip:  If you want to learn a subject fast and have the
maximum amount of fun, look for books aimed at kids.

In this case, I discovered Dewey decimal J808.06674 So, You
Wanna Be a Comic Book Artist by Phillip Amara,
illustrations by Pop Mhan.

Hot Doggy.

Phillip suggested I name my studio.  Cool.

I walked into Suzanne’s room, office, and suggested she
name her room.  Out of the conversation with her, up
bubbled the name for my studio – Chuckling Ferret Studio.

The name needed to be playful – play is right brain stuff
you remember.

Did you know that ferrets chuckle when they play?
Otherwise, they are silent.  I lived with a wonderful
fellow, a ferret named, Dakota, for eight years.  I miss
him still.

Ferrets, like otters, are the most playful creatures I
know.  They also have an unquenchable curiosity.  I want to
cultivate these qualities, don’t you?

Ed, the ferret man, said, “Ferrets remain playful, like
kittens, their entire lives.”  He was right.  I want to be
playful my entire life, too.

The name Chuckling Ferret Studio also lends itself to some
word play.  Chuck Ling and his Ferret Studio popped into my
head.

One of my on-going fantasies is to rent warehouse space to
create art and breed ferrets – hence a ferret studio.

You get the picture – playful.

Chuck Ling also becomes a wonderful pseudonym.   What
possibilities for art and story emerge from this identity?
What books would Chuck Ling write?  What comic books would
he draw?

What will you name your studio?

Where will it be?

How will you stock it?

By when will you get it done?  Set a date.  Do it.  Let the
good times roll.
